Roundtable Discussion with AIIAV on “Sri Lanka’s Geopolitical and Maritime Security Posture as a Small Indian Ocean State”

On 9 June 2026, the Lakshman Kadirgamar Institute of International Relations and Strategic Studies (LKIIRSS) hosted a roundtable discussion with The Australian Institute of International Affairs, Victoria (AIIAV). The discussion titled “Sri Lanka’s Geopolitical and Maritime Security Posture as a Small Indian Ocean State” brought together representatives from the policy and academic communities to discuss shared interests.
This discussion was attended by Mr.Prakash Mirchandani, MA, AIIA Council Member, Mr.Richard Iron, CMG OBE and other representatives of AIIAV, with Prof. Nimal Gunatilleke, member of the International Relations Advisory Committee of the LKIRSS, members of the LKI Board of Management Rear Admiral (Retd.) Y.N. Jayarathna and Mr. Imran Furkan. Senior Research Fellows Ms. Nillasi Liyanage, Ms. Piyumani Ranasinghe, Ms. Madhuka Rukmalgama and LKI interns Ms. Dulmini Hetti Arachchi, Ms.Yalindee Premaratne, Ms. Sithmi Withana and Ms. Attcheya Paranthaman were also present.
