Michael joined LKI in February 2023, as part of the ODI Fellowship Scheme.
Michael holds an MSc in Development Economics from the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS), University of London, with distinction. His Master’s thesis examined the economic costs associated with unrecognised sovereignty in Somaliland, analysing the relationship between trade in Somaliland and the civil conflict in Somalia.
Michael obtained his first degree, a Master’s in Economics, from the University of Edinburgh. This was combined with a year of study at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in the United States, where he focussed on behavioural economics and advanced econometrics.
Prior to LKI, Michael worked as an Economist at the Department of Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA), UK Government. His research interests include environmental economics, international economics and the role of multilateral organisations, specifically in a developing economy context.
