On Friday 19th May 2023, LKI welcomed two guests from the United Nations Industrial Development Organisation (UNIDO) to discuss sustainable energy and decarbonisation priorities in the Sri Lankan industrial sector.
Mr. Nicholas Dehod is the project manager of the Energy Systems and Decarbonisation Unit at UNIDO and travelled from Vienna, Austria to visit Sri Lanka as part of his organisation’s mission to support the decarbonisation of the Sri Lankan industrial sector. He was accompanied by Dr. Jagathdeva Vidanagama, a local specialist working on the acceleration of industries’ climate response in Sri Lanka.
The Executive Director (Actg.) E.A.S. Wijayanthi Edirisinghe opened the meeting with welcoming remarks and discussed the institute’s research priorities with regard to environmental and economic research in this area. Mr. Dehod shared his project priorities and how LKI may be able to support his team’s project going forward. This developed into an in-depth discussion on industrial strategy in Sri Lanka and how environmental research must be at the heart of future strategy.
