LKI offers internships to individuals with a keen interest in international relations, economics, law, global studies and other relevant disciplines. Interns support the different functions of the institute and will receive a unique opportunity to participate in research, communications and administrative teams to produce high-quality research and organise diplomatic and academic events.

This is a fantastic opportunity for current students, recent graduates and early-career professionals to develop a publication record in research, gain experience in international affairs, and learn from experienced professionals in the diplomatic and foreign policy space.

The qualifications sought are as follows: 

  • A current undergraduate or recent graduate, of a relevant Bachelor’s Degree (e.g. International Relations, Political Science, Economics other relevant discipline)
  • A keen interest in current affairs in Sri Lanka and abroad.
  • A desire to contribute to high-quality research and work closely with a diverse research team.

Or 

  • A current undergraduate or recent graduate, of a relevant Bachelor’s Degree (e.g. Media Studies, Communications, Technology, other relevant discipline) is preferred but not required.
  • A keen interest in working in media communications, research publication and website management.
  • Experience working with WordPress and Adobe software is desirable.

Or

  • A current undergraduate, recent graduate, of a relevant Bachelor’s Degree (e.g. Business Administration, Human Resources Management, Accounting, other relevant discipline) or a student pursuing a relevant professional qualification.
  • A keen interest in supporting the institute with operations and the organisation of high-profile events.

If your academic and/or professional experience does not conform to the qualifications specified above, LKI still welcomes your application.

All applicants are expected to have/conform to the following:

  • A willingness to learn from an experienced administration team and support An ability to work as part of a small team in a dynamic environment.
  • Fluency in English on daily tasks.

Applicant Information

LKI recruits interns on a rolling basis and applicants are welcome to submit their CV and motivation letter at any point in the year. Applicants should include their relevant academic or professional discipline in their application and explain their suitability for an internship at the institute.

Internships are initially 3 months in length, with the possibility to extend for an additional 3 months subject to a performance review. Applicants should also indicate their internship availability in their motivation letter.
