Internships (Research)

Reading Time: 2 min read

LKI offers internships to undergraduates and young professionals with a keen interest in international relations and foreign policy related research. Interns support the different functions of the institute and will receive a unique opportunity to participate in research, communications and administrative teams to produce high-quality research and organise diplomatic and academic events.

This will provide an opportunity to build a publication record in research, gain experience in international affairs, and learn from experienced professionals in the diplomatic and foreign policy field.

Candidates must be a current undergraduate or recent graduate of a relevant Bachelor’s Degree (e.g. International Relations, Economics, Law, Strategic Studies or other relevant discipline). Interns should also have a keen interest in current affairs in Sri Lanka and abroad, and a desire to contribute to high-quality research and work closely with a diverse research team.

Internships are initially 3 months in length, with the possibility to extend for an additional 3 months subject to a performance review. Applicants should also indicate their internship availability in their motivation letter.

Applicant Information

LKI recruits interns on a rolling basis and applicants are welcome to submit their CV and motivation letter at any point in the year. Applicants should include their relevant academic or professional discipline in their application and explain their suitability for an internship at the institute.

Applicants should include a one-page cover letter that explains their suitability for the position, and a CV (max. 4 pages) with names and contact numbers of two non-related referees. Applicants must also produce a 1 page research proposal that outlines their research plans for their time at the institute. The topic should be relevant to one of LKI’s research programmes: Global Economy; Global Governance; Global Peace & Security; and Global Relations. The proposed project must address a contemporary research area and outline how such a research project would add value to the current national and international debate.
