Prime Minister issues statement on constitution-building process

Issuing a special statement on the constitution-building process, Prime Minister Ranil Wickremasinghe described it as an inclusive and transparent process compatible with the election manifesto.

He added that in addition to a two-thirds majority, the  new constitution will also require the support of the people at a referendum.

Government to build green buildings in 2016

The government has undertaken steps to construct green buildings from 2016 onwards.

Public and semi-government buildings are to receive guidelines for construction and maintenance in line with the new policy on green buildings.

Taiwan looks to strengthen ties with Sri Lanka

Taiwan seeks to strengthen relations with Sri Lanka, as well as with other countries in the region, according to the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP).

The Democratic Progressive Party emerged victorious at the recently concluded elections in Taiwan, after which its vision for strengthening ties was expressed.

Democratic debate focuses on gun control and healthcare

A fourth round of the Democratic presidential debates took place yesterday between candidates Bernie Sanders and Hillary Clinton.

Among significant topics debated were gun control measures and healthcare.

North Korea drops leaflets in South Korea

North Korea has dropped around 1 million leaflets into South Korea in response to the latter’s recent broadcasts following the nuclear test.

The Defense Ministry in Seoul said North Korean balloons have been spotted on an almost daily basis.

Burkina Faso and Mali strengthens ties to counter terrorism

Following deadly attacks on Burkina Faso and Mali by radical Islamist groups, the two countries have decided to work hand in hand to counter the surge of terrorism in West Africa.

Sharing intelligence and coordinating security patrols are among the measures to be jointly undertaken in this regard.
