Indian Foreign Secretary meets with Sri Lanka’s President
Calling on the President today, the Indian Foreign Secretary, Dr. S. Jaishankar, praised his “statesman-like” approach, in reference to the President’s recent speech in Parliament on the making of a new Constitution.
President Sirisena also conveyed his greetings to the Indian Premier.
State Minister says Port City project to commence shortly
State Minister of International Trade, Sujeewa Senasinghe, stated that the Port City project will commence within the next couple of months.
He added that the project is part of the government’s initiatives to enhance investment.
New Constitution linked to improving economy
Public Enterprise Development Deputy Minister, Eran Wickramaratne, expressed confidence that the constitutional reforms on democracy, good governance, transparency and law will improve investor confidence.
Foreign Direct Investment will be boosted three-fold, according to the Deputy Minister.
General Electric to lay off jobs in Europe
General Electric plans to lay off up to 6,500 jobs across Europe over the next two years.
The layoffs are expected to be in the gas and steam-power sectors of the business, owing to low profits as of late.
Iran releases U.S. sailors
The crews of two American patrol boats seized off the Persian Gulf were released swiftly by Iran.
The Iranians were thanked for their cooperation by U.S. Secretary of State, John Kerry.
Putin not opposed to granting asylum to Syrian President Assad
Russian President Vladimir Putin has not ruled out granting asylum to Syrian President, Bashar al-Assad.
President Putin commented that Syria was in need of “political reform.”
