SASSRI Visits the LKI

On 23 September 2025, the Lakshman Kadirgamar Institute of International Relations and Strategic Studies (LKIIRSS) welcomed representatives of the South Asia Sustainability & Security Research Institute (SASSRI), headed by the Institute’s Executive Director Col. Nalin Herath, for an academic discussion. The team included Prof. Dr. Christian Kaunert, Professor of Policing and Security and Director of the International Centre for Policing and Security (University of South Wales, UK), and Mr. Anant Mishra, Marie Curie Research Fellow at University of South Wales, UK and doctoral candidate within the EU-funded GLOCTER network.

The delegation was received by Rear Admiral (Retd.) Y.N. Jayarathna, Mr. Imran Furkan, both Members of the LKI Board of Management. The discussion centred on the approaches to counter-terrorism efforts in Europe and the Global South, particularly the south-Asia. They were exploring to study and learn on experiences in counter-terrorism efforts of Sri Lanka during the period of separatist terrorism in the island State. The discussion encompassed the forthcoming EU Initiative to establish a India- EU Centre and collaborative partnerships in academic and research based studies too.

Also in attendance were Ms. Sulochana Wijayasinghe, Research Assistant at LKI, Ms. Yeshiah Peries, Communications Intern at LKI, and Ms. Aalia Moore, Research Intern at LKI.
