The Lakshman Kadirgamar Institute of International Relations and Strategic Studies (LKIIRSS) hosted students from the Department of Law, University of Jaffna, for an educational visit on 23 July 2026.
As part of the programme, students participated in a discussion on “Ocean Governance and the Biodiversity Beyond National Jurisdiction (BBNJ) Agreement,” which included an introduction to the BBNJ Agreement and its significance for contemporary ocean governance.
The programme also featured the launch of a BBNJ Fact Sheet, developed by LKI interns Hansani Dharmasooriya and Akithma Dias.
Designed as an accessible and illustrated resource, the fact sheet provides an overview of the key elements of the BBNJ Agreement and serves as an introductory resource for those seeking to better understand this important development in international ocean governance.
