Ambassador Ravinatha Aryasinha, the Executive Director of the Lakshman Kadirgamar Institute of International Relations and Strategic Studies (LKI) received Professor Shahar Hameiri from the University of Queensland at the LKI on 28 January 2025.
Professor Hameiri, who is on a month-long research study, visited the Institute to gain insights from the Executive Director. The discussion focused on Sri Lanka’s strategic positioning between China and India and how the country should engage with the United States while maintaining a balanced foreign policy. The Executive Director, drawing from his experience, provided a historical perspective on Sri Lanka’s foreign relations and emphasised the importance for Sri Lanka to navigate the great power rivalry in the Indian Ocean.
Professor Hameiri also shared insights on China’s Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), particularly its responses to challenges faced by partner countries and the strategic adjustments under BRI 2.0.
