Navigating Strategic Waters: LKIIRSS Launches “Admiral’s Morning” Lecture Series

Colombo 09 September 2025 – The Lakshman Kadirgamar Institute of International Relations and Strategic Studies (LKIIRSS) inaugurated its new lecture series titled “Admiral’s Morning” on 09 September 2025 at the Lighthouse Auditorium in Colombo. The opening lecture was delivered by Rear Admiral Y.N. Jayarathna (Retd.), a distinguished member of the LKIIRSS Board, who presented a comprehensive overview of the Sethusamudram Canal Project.

Rear Admiral Jayarathna’s presentation offered an in-depth analysis of the project’s key facts, figures, and statistics, followed by a dynamic Q&A session. The discussion explored legal, environmental, and strategic dimensions of the canal initiative, sparking thoughtful engagement from the audience.

A diverse cross-section of attendees enriched the event, including representatives from academia, professional bodies, strategic think tanks, media organizations, and the broader public community. Their active participation underscored the relevance of the topic and contributed to a vibrant exchange of ideas.

– 16 September – Palk Bay, Palk Strait & Demarcation of the International Maritime Boundary Line (IMBL)

– 23 September – Marine Spatial Data Infrastructure (MSDI)

– 30 September – Regional Maritime Posture
