LKIIRSS Welcomes Prof. Derek Grossman for Discussion on Strategic Competition in the Indian Ocean

The Lakshman Kadirgamar Institute of International Relations and Strategic Studies (LKIIRSS) welcomed Prof. Derek Grossman on 13 August 2026 for discussions on his forthcoming research examining strategic competition in the Indian Ocean Region (IOR).

Prof. Grossman is an expert on U.S. China competition and the Global South’s response, with a particular focus on South and Southeast Asia. He is a Professor of Political Science and International Relations at the University of Southern California and is the Founder and Chief Analyst of Indo-Pacific Solutions, LLC. He is also an Adjunct Senior Fellow with the Indo-Pacific Security Program at the Center for a New American Security (CNAS) and a Fellow with the China Global South Project.

The discussion was attended by LKIIRSS Board Member Rear Admiral (Retd.) Y. N.
