On Wednesday 8 May 2024, a delegation of students from the University of Agder, Norway, visited the Lakshman Kadirgamar Institute of International Relations and Strategic Studies (LKI) as part of a three-week field visit to Sri Lanka. A group of Global Development students, led by Mr Ajith Liyanage, met with the Executive Director Ambassador Ravinatha Aryasinha and LKI’s research team to learn more about the current economic, political and foreign policy landscape in Sri Lanka.
The Executive Director, welcoming the visitors, spoke on Norway’s involvement in Sri Lanka including the peace and reconciliation process, and the influence and potential of the Sri Lankan Overseas Community in Norway in assisting the development process in Sri Lanka.
Subsequently in an interactive discussion, LKI’s Research Team shared insights into their research writings and interests, and responded to the questions corresponding to the topics covered under the Global Development Master’s programme at the University of Agder. The students’ recent visit to the Colombo Port City, the role of Foreign Direct Investment in Sri Lanka, and Sri Lanka’s prospects as it emerges from the economic and political crises were some of the topics discussed during the interactive session.
