LKI Executive Director Welcomes Representatives from the Regional Centre for Maritime Studies, KDU

The Executive Director of the Lakshman Kadirgamar Institute of International Relations and Strategic Studies (LKI), Ambassador Ravinatha Aryasinha welcomed the Director of the Regional Centre for Maritime Studies, Captain Chamila Mendis, Director of Studies of the Regional Centre for Maritime Studies, Lieutenant Commander Carine Buzaud and Director of Studies at the General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University (KDU), Lieutenant Commander Manaranga Thilakarathne to LKI on 22 January 2025.

The discussion centred on the establishment of the new Regional Centre for Maritime Studies under the KDU. The Executive Director provided key insights on maritime issues of national importance, emphasising the need for enhanced public awareness and regional cooperation. He highlighted the importance of training professionals and educating the public on maritime matters.

The Executive Director suggested from the centre, draw on expert feedback and include collaborations involving KDU, LKI, and the Institute of National Security Studies (INSS). He further highlighted that the new centre should aim to fill existing gaps and avoid replicating initiatives that are already underway.
