LKI’s Ganeshan Wignaraja, participated in a UN Expert Group Meeting on Macroeconomic Prospects, Policy Challenges in Asia and the Pacific, held at the United Nations Conference Centre in Bangkok. In his comments, Dr. Wignaraja discussed Asia’s prospects in a recovering world economy, key macroeconomic risks, the impact of China’s Belt and Road initiative on Asia, public-private sector partnerships in infrastructure finance, and Sri Lanka’s ambitious infrastructure and reform programme.

The objective of this meeting was to provide a platform for policy debate and knowledge exchange among participants, with a focus on the analyses and policy considerations outlined in the Economic and Social Survey of Asia and the Pacific 2018. The Survey 2018 will be structured around the theme “Financing for development in support of the 2030 Agenda.”

The meeting was attended by eminent experts from the region and beyond, to provide regional perspectives and share in-depth country experiences on key economic and development issues.
