Commander of the Sri Lanka Navy visits LKI

Amb. Ravinatha Aryasinha, the Executive Director of the Lakshman Kadirgamar Institute of International Relations and Strategic Studies (LKI), welcomed Vice Admiral Priyantha Perera, Commander of the Sri Lanka Navy and had a discussion during his visit to LKI to attend the Workshop on Maritime Domain Awareness held at the LKI Auditorium on Thursday, 6 June 2024. This workshop was organised by the Australian National University in collaboration with the Australian High Commission in Sri Lanka with the support of the Lakshman Kadirgamar Institute.

During the discussion, views were exchanged on the draft of the report titled ‘Governing Sri Lanka’s maritime space: An Assessment of Sri Lanka’s maritime challenges and Maritime Domain Awareness capabilities’ authored by Simon Bateman, David Brewster and Anthony Bergin that was developed and enhanced by multi stakeholder discussions.They also discussed the need for such multi stakeholder consultation and collaboration in the effective development and implementation of Maritime / Ocean governance frameworks.

Mr. Rohan Masakorala, Senior Consultant Team Lead – Maritime Advisory Programme,Vice Admiral Y N Jayarathna (Rted.),Former Chief of Staff of the Sri Lanka Navy, Col. Amanda Johnston, Defense Adviser to the Australian High Commision in Sri Lanka, Capt. Simon Bateman (Rted.), former Australian Defence Adviser, New Delhi at the Australian Department of Defence , Dr. David Brewster, Senior Research Fellow of the Australian National University and Dr Anthony Bergin, Senior Research Fellow at the National Security College participated in the meeting.
