Amb. Ravinatha Aryasinha, the Executive Director of the Lakshman Kadirgamar Institute of International Relations and Strategic Studies (LKI), Research Fellow (Global Governance) Mr. Nilupul Gunawardena welcomed Capt. Simon Bateman (Rted.), former Australian Defence Adviser, New Delhi at the Australian Department of Defence , Dr. David Brewster, Senior Research Fellow of the Australian National University and Dr Anthony Bergin, Senior Research Fellow at the National Security College on Wednesday, 5 June 2024.
They discussed the forthcoming Workshop on Maritime Domain Awareness that is scheduled to be held at the LKI Auditorium on Thursday, 6 June 2024. This workshop is organised by the Australian National University in collaboration with the Australian High Commission in Sri Lanka with the support of the Lakshman Kadirgamar Institute and will host the launch of the report titled ‘Governing Sri Lanka’s maritime space: An Assessment of Sri Lanka’s maritime challenges and Maritime Domain Awareness capabilities’ authored by Simon Bateman, David Brewster and Anthony Bergin.
This event is also expected to outline the importance of Sri Lanka’s maritime interests in areas such as ports and maritime services, fisheries, offshore energy and resources, undersea infrastructure, tourism and its implications for maritime trade as a potential driving force for Sri Lanka’s economic development.
