UK to support fisheries industry development
The British Deputy High Commissioner to Sri Lanka, Laura Davies, has expressed the UK’s willingness to assist in the development of the fisheries industry.
This assurance was made during a meeting with the Minister of Fisheries and Aquatic Sources Development, Mahinda Amaraweera.
Sri Lanka-China relations strengthen further
Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe is expected to hold high-level discussions with Chinese Government officials during a three day state-visit to China.
This visit is expected to promote cooperation mechanisms in economic affairs, investment, technology, and tourism.
Investigators to probe Bangladesh Bank fund heist
Officials from the Bangladesh Criminal Investigation Department are scheduled to arrive in Sri Lanka to probe an online theft of USD $81 million, from an account belonging to the Bangladeshi Central Bank.
Hackers allegedly stole the money from the Bangladesh Bank’s account with the Federal Reserve Bank of New York, last month.
Deported refugees arrive in Turkey
The EU and Turkey have begun implementing the one-for-one refugee swap agreement, signed last month.
The EU will accept a cap of 72,000 Syrian refugees, with the intention of bringing an end to irregular migration between Turkey and Europe.

This took place in light of money laundering allegations through a secretive offshore company, as revealed by the leaked Panama Papers.
Helen Clark announces candidacy for UN top seat
The former New Zealand Prime Minister, Helen Clark, has announced that she will run for the post of UN Secretary-General.
If successful, Ms. Clark, who currently heads the UN Development Programme, would become the first female Secretary-General.
