LKI co-hosts the launch of ‘Singapore and Sri Lanka at 50: Perspectives from Sri Lanka’

The Lakshman Kadirgamar Institute of International Relations and Strategic Studies (LKI) in collaboration with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs hosted the launch of the publication ‘Singapore and Sri Lanka at 50: Perspectives from Sri Lanka,’ co-edited by Dr. Chulanee Attanayake,Ms. Ramita Iyer, and Dr. George I. H. Cooke on 27 August 2024. The publication, which marks the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Singapore and Sri Lanka, offers a comprehensive analysis of the evolution of the bilateral ties between the two nations.

The event featured a formal presentation of the publication to Ms. Aruni Wijewardane, Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, by former Sri Lankan High Commissioner to Singapore, Ms. Sashikala Premawardhane, in the presence of Dr. George I. H. Cooke, a co-author of the publication.

A panel discussion on the theme of the publication followed the launch, moderated by Dr. Ganeshan Wignaraja, Visiting Senior Fellow at ODI and panellists comprising of Ambassador Ravinatha Aryasinha, Executive Director of LKI, Ms. Sashikala Premawardhane, former High Commissioner of Sri Lanka to Singapore, and Mr. Madhuka Wickramarachchi, Deputy Chief of Protocol at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

H.E. Senarath Dissanayake, the current High Commissioner of Sri Lanka to Singapore and Dr. Iqbal Singh Sevea, Director of the Institute of South Asian Studies (ISAS) at the National University of Singapore (NUS) participated in the discussion virtually while Mr. Jayantha Dharmadasa, Honorary Consul-General of Singapore in Colombo, Sri Lanka also attended the event.
