The Lakshman Kadirgamar Institute of International Relations and Strategic Studies (LKI) hosted an expert roundtable consultation on “Strengthening Engagement in Australia-Sri Lanka Relations” moderated by Amb. Ravinatha Aryasinha, Executive Director of LKI, featuring Ishara Tilakaratna and Michael Iveson.

The roundtable discussion  brought together a diverse range of experts from the economic, security and political sectors to discuss the Australia-Sri Lanka bilateral relationship. This platform built on initial desk research conducted by the LKI research team, which was presented to stakeholders by Ms Tilakaratna and supported by further data analysis by Mr Iveson.

The discussion welcomed representatives from the Australian High Commission to Sri Lanka and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Sri Lanka. LKI has also participated in several events and discussions relating to the Australia-Sri Lanka bilateral relationship and these outcomes are also incorporated into this review. This report aims to better inform policy related to the Australia-Sri Lanka bilateral relationship and summarises the key takeaways from the expert-led discussion. It outlines the important aspects of the relationship through the lenses of political and strategic, social and cultural, and economic relations.
