LKI-Kalinga International Foundation Discussion on Global and Regional Developments

The Lakshman Kadirgamar Institute of International Relations and Strategic Studies (LKI) recently hosted an academic discussion on global and regional developments, with a visiting delegation from the Kalinga International Foundation (KIF), a leading Indian thinktank.

The delegation included Ambassador Lalit Mansingh, Chairman of the Kalinga International Foundation, former Indian Ambassador to the United States and the United Arab Emirates, and High Commissioner to the United Kingdom and Nigeria; Admiral Arun Prakash, Chairman of the National Maritime Foundation and former Indian Naval Chief and Chairman, Chiefs of Staff Committee; Professor S.D. Muni, Member of the Executive Council of the Institute of Defence Studies and Analyses (IDSA) and Professor Emeritus, Jawaharlal Nehru University; Mr. Rajeev Kher, Commerce Secretary, Government of India; Mr. Saurabh Chandra, former Secretary, Ministry of Petroleum and  Natural Gas, Government of India; Ambassador Anup Mudgal, former Indian High Commissioner to Mauritius; and Dr. Samatha Mallempati, Research Fellow, Indian Council of World Affairs.

The broad-ranging discussion moderated by LKI’s Executive Director, Dr. Ganeshan Wignaraja, focused on emerging global and regional challenges, including the escalating trade conflict between the US and China, the global economic outlook, India-Sri Lanka trade and investment ties, the experience of Indian foreign aid to Sri Lanka, and geopolitics and regional maritime security. LKI’s Nonresident Fellow and former Executive Director, Dr. Dinusha Panditaratne made the closing remarks.
