Visiting delegation from the Nigerian Defence College (NDC) hosted

The Lakshman Kadirgamar Institute of International Relations and Strategic Studies hosted a
delegation of senior military officers from the Nigerian Defence College (NDC), Abuja, on the 24th of
April at LKI.

The National Defence College (NDC) is the apex military training institution for the Nigerian
Armed Forces and a Centre of Excellence for peace support operations training at the strategic
level in West Africa. It was established in 1992 as the highest military institution for the training
of senior military officers in Nigeria. The NDC has built up ties with the Sri Lankan defence
establishments and has visited Sri Lanka in the past.
The delegation consisted of many senior officers from the Nigerian armed forces and police as
well as two officers from Uganda and Congo. The visit was coordinated by Sri Lankan defence
authorities notably the Sri Lanka Navy.

The opening remarks were made by Mrs E.A.S Wijayanthi Edirisinghe, Executive Director (Actg.)
of the Lakshman Kadirgamar Institute who welcomed the visiting delegation. They were briefed
on the LKI’s role as a think tank attached to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Sri Lanka and its
extensive research conducted.

The focus of the visit by the Nigerian visitors was to study “post conflict reconstruction and
national development in Sri Lanka”, which was discussed during the interaction session with LKI
officers and the Research Team.
