Adam Collins, Research Fellow at LKI, was an invited panelist at the Seminar on the Economic + Sector Review and Outlook for 2018, titled “Building on Stability,” on 22 January 2018, organised by the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce.

The keynote address was delivered Dr. Indrajit Coomaraswamy, Governor of the Central Bank, and was followed by panel discussion featuring Mr. Shiran Fernando, Chief Economist at the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce; Mr. Deshal De Mel, Economic Advisor at the Ministry of Finance and Mass Media; Mr. Prabhash Subasinghe, Managing Director at Global Rubber Industries; and Mr. Suresh Shah, past Chairman of the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce.

During the panel discussion, Mr. Collins spoke on the increasingly buoyant world economy and on the risks that Sri Lanka should watch for in 2018. He highlighted greater trade protectionism, a slowdown in the Chinese economy and the tightening of monetary policy by developed countries as the three greatest risks of the coming year.

The objective of this seminar was to provide a forum in which to discuss the economic outlook for Sri Lanka in 2018, and discuss the impact on key sectors of the economy from a private, public, and global point of view.

The event drew a diverse group of participants, including sectoral experts, industry practitioners, government officials, high-profile corporate executives, academics, and media.
