LKI’s Executive Director, Dinusha Panditaratne recently chaired a session on human rights, at the Annual Research Sessions of the Faculty of Graduate Studies of the University of Colombo, on 14 November 2017.

Academic staff and postgraduate students presented their research on a range of issues relating to human rights in Sri Lanka, including on domestic violence, witness protection systems, the Sri Lankan diaspora, the return of land in the North, participatory decision-making in local government, and geographical indicators in intellectual property.

The theme of this year’s Annual Research Sessions was “New Trends in Education, Health and Security for Human Advancement.” The symposium was chaired by Senior Professor Nayani Melegoda, Dean of the Faculty of Graduate Studies at the University of Colombo, and also a Board Member of LKI.

The Chief Guest was Hon. Kabir Hashim, Minister for Public Enterprises Development, and the Guest of Honour was Senior Professor Lakshman Dissanayake, Vice Chancellor of the University of Colombo. The audience comprised academic staff of the University of Colombo and other institutions, postgraduate students, legal and other professionals, and members of the general public.
