The Lakshman Kadirgamar Institute of International Relations and Strategic Studies (LKIIRSS) convened a Special Guest Lecture on “15 Years of Dialogue: Sri Lanka–SCO Partnership and the Way Forward” on Thursday, 21 May 2026, at the Lighthouse Auditorium, LKI. The lecture was delivered by His Excellency Nurlan Yermekbayev, Secretary-General of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO).

The session provided valuable insights into the evolution of Sri Lanka’s engagement with the SCO over the past 15 years, highlighting the organisation’s growing relevance in regional cooperation, including its history and mechanisms, as well as its key pillars such as the security dimension, economic agenda, socio-humanitarian cooperation, and external cooperation, alongside broader areas of connectivity and multilateral dialogue.

The event was organized by the Lakshman Kadirgamar Institute of International Relations and Strategic Studies (LKIIRSS) in collaboration with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment & Tourism. The event brought together members of the diplomatic corps, Heads of Mission, senior government officials, representatives of think tanks, academics, researchers, and university students.
